We spend large amounts of time with our son at his soccer events at the Parade Grounds. The turf on the fields there is in very poor shape, and is in desperate need of being resurfaced with better turf. One of the main issues is that the current turf consists of millions of tiny black pellets. Everyone, especially the young athletes, comes home with many of these pellets stuck to them and their clothing. I believe these pellets are the remains of rubber tires that were used in the original turf, and is potentially toxic. We recently played at a field at Dyker Beach Park that had new grass turf, and it was so much better, and with no residue. This type of turf would be a huge improvement for the soccer fields at the Parade Grounds.
