High school application curriculum for underprivileged applicants 3.5/5 (4)

After school program/ class for 7th and/or 8th graders in the district to guide them through the NYC high school application process. For students who don’t have access to support/ resources already (parents who work full time, low income family, parents who don’t speak English, English-language learners, undocumented families, underrepresented ethnic/racial groups in the specialized high schools…)
Maybe run out of a library in the district- Windsor Terrace? Borough Park? Kensington? After school once a week. Programming could include:
-education about high school process, how it works
-alumni/ current high school students in NYC give information sessions about their schools
-tutoring and prep for high school entrance exams, essays, interview prep, interview clothing to borrow
-field trips to high school open houses/ tours
-resources like guide books/ test prep books
Could be volunteer run or staff hired. Would be geared towards middle schoolers who live in the district and are applying to public NYC high schools, and who match the description listed above.
