During the Covid-19 shutdown, our family spent time daily in Prospect Park and we were definitely not alone! As one of the biggest parks in Brooklyn, it serves a huge number of people, providing a respite from the concrete jungle and stuffy, crowded apartments. But there’s often no place to go to the bathroom! The picnic house is closed during some high-use hours and the few regular porta potties get so much use that they are often unsanitary and filled to the brim with waste (and sometimes other nasty treasures). It’s not good for the trees to get peed on all the time and it’s certainly not good to use a filthy, overflowing facility during a global pandemic. If there were more porta potties (and they were all emptied more regularly), it would help both the trees and the people!
