During the Covid pandemic, Prospect Park is getting more use than ever! It has truly been an oasis for Brooklynites during these days of confinement, but the heavy traffic is taking a toll. On Monday mornings, especially during the summer, after a full weekend of picnicking in the park, the fields are strewn with garbage. Conscientious park-goers are making a big effort to dispose of their trash, there simply are not enough trash cans available, and those that are available don’t do enough to keep raccoons and other critters out. I propose that participatory budgeting funds be used to buy 100+ raccoon-proof trash containers to be distributed throughout Prospect Park. This will make our park a much more welcoming, healthy place for all of us to visit.
